McLaren Creates One Off 720S For Dubai Motor Show
Bruce McLaren may have passed at the young age of 32, but his spirit and definition lives on in full through the McLaren company. This 720S is commissioned, designed, and built by McLaren Special Operations to celebrate his achievements, and to act as a centerpiece for their display at the 2017 Dubai International Motor Show.
Covered in Zenith Black satin paint with gold alloy wheels, this one of one 720S is not subtle in who it's designed to appeal to. McLaren's Middle East Managing Director Andreas Bareis says the theme of the car is "Achievement" and customers and shareholders from the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf states are important to their success. As a tribute to their middle-eastern client base, the rear wing bears a quote by Bruce McLaren stating "Life is measured in achievement, not in years alone". The phrase is written in gold Arabic letters and styled to mimic the Dubai skyline. It looks gorgeous.
Inside the cabin McLaren went with a black-on-black theme using Alcantara and leather trim. Only the shift paddles, steering wheel center line, and upper door are covered in satin gold trim. MSO say they've spent 120 additional hours producing bespoke exterior parts like carbon fiber front splitter, air intake, roof, rear bumper, rear diffuser, side mirror arms, rear aero bridge, and rear bonnet. The rear wing stencil required 30 hours on its own. To top it all off, a 24-carat gold heat shield covers the engine ala McLaren F1. Its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 producing 710 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque hasn't been touched, but it will still propel from zero-to-100 kmh in 2.9 seconds and blast from zero-to-200 kmh in only 7.8 seconds.
Price and availability are not stated. It seems like this car is more likely to end up in a McLaren museum before someone's garage.
